Tips on getting your hair straightened semi-permanently

You may have noticed that poker straight hair is very much in this season. If straightening your hair with heating tools is far too much of a hassle, you might want to consider a semi-permanent treatment, read on for the know-how!

Is semi-permanent straightening for you?

Getting your hair straightened at the salon is an ideal solution for those of you with thick, wavy or curly hair. It beats straightening your hair on a daily basis and can, in fact, be better for your hair than using heat styling tools on a daily basis. There are a few things you'll need to consider before committing yourself to such a long lasting change, such as potential damage to your locks and how long the treatment will realistically last on your hair type.

How does semi-permanent hair straightening work?

Your stylist will start off applying a product, followed by the straightening process, which locks the formula into your hair. The end result is straighter, smoother and shinier hair.

How long does semi-permanent straightening last?

This depends on your hair's natural texture and curl, though the treatment should last up to 60 days. If your hair is considerably thick and curly, it could last a lot less. You should also consider how fast your hair grows as your curls may start to show in your roots as your hair grows up.

Will semi-permanent straightening damage your hair?

Most hair straightening treatments have greatly advanced in the past couple of years and are generally mild enough not to cause much damage to hair follicles. However, it is advised that you use the correct hair products post-treatment and make sure you visit your salon for regular trims to get rid of split ends.

Will you lose your curls forever?

Of course not! Your hair will eventually go back to being curly once the treatment has completely grown out. If you would like to consider keeping your hair straight, it is advised that you visit your stylist every three to six months for a trim, to discuss your options and to conduct a thorough hair analysis.
