Slicked Back Style - from the Runway to the Streets

  • v/s"
Runway vs street

It's time to put two hairstyles head to head again with this week's dose of Match the Look. A high-fashion hairstyle for the modern woman, we're asking ourselves whether the wet look should be reserved for the runway, or whether it's versatile enough for street styling too.

Wet look runway

The look: A 90's look revamped, the wet look has seen its fair share of revivals and transformations over the past two decades. This season, it's morphed into a grungy, surfer-chic look with elements of high-glamour, gothic vibes.

Achieve it: This stand-out hairstyle requires a wet look effect that starts at the roots and runs right down to the tips of the hair. Texture is added by twisting thick strands of hair into semi-twisted sections. To pull off the look start with damp hair, rub some wet look gel between your palms and run down the lengths of your hair, twisting sections as you go along. Keep the look in place with a quick spritz of medium-hold hairspray.

A note from the editor What's not to love about this bold and daring all over wet look hairstyle? Transition the look from the runway to the street by teaming it up with a dark lace outfit and plum red lips.

Wet look street style

The look: A subtler hairstyle than the all over wet look, the street style alternative is worn loosely, with wet roots and dry matte waves. A relaxed style with plenty of structure and movement, this is one style that will definitely rule the streets this season.

Achieve it: Wash, dry and blow dry your hair to begin with, ensure the lengths are frizz-free with a hair oil. Using a wide-toothed comb, apply a nut-sized amount of hair gel to the roots of your locks and comb over the head. Get that matte finish by applying a spritz of mattifying powder to the lengths of your hair.

A note from the editor: We're loving this look and even more so as it's great at camouflaging oily roots and second day hair. Transition your street savvy wet look from the office to a night out by teaming up your locks with a fitted jacket and killer heels.
