Braid Wars: Braided Pony vs. Braided Bun

  • v/s"
Braided pony vs. braided bun, which will you be sporting this summer?

As much as we're feeling the boxer braid hype this season, there are plenty more braided hairstyles to choose from, like these. Which of these braided beauties will you be giving a go this summer?

Braided Ponytail

The look: What happens when you combine a ponytail with a Dutch braid? This fresh and exciting new look! A little bit chic, with a hint of rock and roll, this braided ponytail is the perfect way to style your hair in a low ponytail with a twist, for when you're feeling a bit fancy...

Achieve it: The trick here is to make sure you part the middle section of your hair as neatly as possible to create a straight braid. Once you've got your braid section ready, simply plait your hair into a Dutch braid, stopping at the lengths of your ponytail. Scoop the rest of your hair into a low ponytail, leaving a small section at the bottom, which you can plait into a small braid and wrap around your pony.

A note from the editor: It might look daunting, but this truly is a simple, yet effective way to wear your ponytail with a twist. Style it down for a day out with a leather jacket and jeans, or up to work with a tweed suit and killer heels.

Braided Bun

The look: The classic bun simply won't cut it these days, especially if you consider yourself to be somewhat of an urban chic queen (and don't we all...). A clean and tidy look with an edge, we've said it before and we're saying it again, the braided bun is here to stay!

Achieve it: If you consider yourself to be crafty with a braid, simply split three sections of hair at the bottom of your head using a fine-toothed comb, flip your head upside down and braid away. Those who can't braid to save the day should ask a friend for a helping hand, because that's what friends are for (right?).

A note from the editor: Have fun with your braided bun by experimenting with different braiding styles. Why not go the whole way by braiding the lengths of your hair before wrapping things up in a bun? Enjoy and have fun!
